One of our valued clients celebrated an important occasion last week. A graduate of G-Star School, Eli Dreyfuss, had his photography featured on a full page in the New York Times!

We wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on the great relationship we’ve had with G-Star over the years, and to say congratulations to both them and Eli on this remarkable achievement.  Read more about Eli and his photography below:

G-Star Student Eli Dreyfuss’ Photography on Full Page in the New York Times!

He walks among giants in the company of previous winners as his photographic work also appears on the cover of the National Scholastic’s Arts & Writers Award Catalog

Palm Springs, FL (June 13, 2016) – Life is funny.  Sometimes things just go right and you have a great week – and sometimes things go really right and you have a brand new life waiting for you!  Just ask Eli Dreyfuss who just graduated from the G-Star School of the Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts.  He’s on his way to Carnegie Hall!  In May of his senior year, Eli was notified that he had won two National Gold Medals (First Place) in the 2016 National Scholastic’s Art and Writing Awards over 320,000 high school students who submitted their work.  On June 2nd he was honored with an exhibition of his work at one of New York’s prestigious art galleries; and a ceremony and exhibition at Carnegie Hall.  He joins some of the most famous artists of their day who were previous winners including artist Andy Warhol; writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Bernard Malamud;  photographer Richard Avedon; actors Robert Redford, Alan Arkin, and John Lithgow; and filmmaker Ken Burns.

When Eli arrived in New York City he was greeted by having his winning picture displayed on the cover of the 2016 National Catalog showing an array of the best art work in the nation.  Each year over 10,000 copies are made and distributed to schools, parents, teachers, and staff across the nation.  He told us “Wherever I go in my career, I proudly represent G-Star’s name and am so proud to call myself a G-Star Alumni.”

If making the cover of the National Catalog wasn’t enough, Scholastic gave him another surprise; one that will change his life forever.  His photo was featured on a full page spread in the May 29th issue of the New York Times. “I was in awe and shock when they told me, and to see my name on the bottom was one of the most gratifying moments in my career as an artist,” Dreyfuss tells us.

From shooting in his backyard to Carnegie Hall and the New York Times, Eli’s photography journey started 2 years ago at G-Star School of the Arts and has never slowed down since.  “This photograph was monumental for me.  One day after school I took one of my classmates aside and asked to take her portrait (Elyssa Jerome).  It was one of my first photographs I ever made.  I never expected it to go as far as it did, but this is only the beginning.”  Eli describes his photography work as “90% therapist and 10% Photographer.”  G-Star School Founder Greg Hauptner says about Eli, “It would be almost impossible to find a kinder, gentler, and more incredibly talented artist than Eli.  He has worked unbelievably hard to hone his craft.  His success and recognition is well deserved!  We’ll be hearing much more from him in the future.” (more story below)
